July 26th Coffee, Cameras, & Conversation Event: National Zoo Photowalk

When: Saturday, July 26th from 10am-2pm

Where: Smithsonian National Zoo, 3001 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC

Join us on Saturday, July 26th for a National Zoo photo walk. We will be meeting at the west entrance located on Connecticut Ave. at 11am (look for Andy in the Leica T-shirt). The Zoo is metro accessible from either the Cleveland Park or Woodley Park Metro Stations.

Unfortunately, we cannot capture the true essence of these magnificent animals outside of their natural habitat. However, today’s Zoo's do play a crucial role in species conservation and also in educating the future generation on how to preserve our planet’s natural spaces.

For this excursion, I recommend bringing the following with you in your kit: A long focal length lens, 75mm+ (don’t worry if you don’t have one, sincethere are plenty of photo opportunities for wider lenses too), a tripod or monopod, an extra battery, plenty of water.

Join us on Saturday, August 9th at 6-9PM for the opening of STRATA Collectives exhibit, "Faith".

As both photographers and engaged citizens, the members of STRATA Collective explore the notions of faith and the things people hold onto in times of uncertainty, whether it be God, country, communities, resources, family, or ideas. We’ve seen these struggles play out in towns and cities across the country - human dramas that unfold in the street. It’s on the street that faith is proclaimed, tested, reinforced and abandoned, against the backdrop of a rapidly changing American landscape."

This collection represents both new and previously exhibited photographs by the Strata Collective, specially curated for this exhibition under the theme of “Faith”.

Strata is a photography collective borne out of a shared passion for the still image. Its members seek to document the beauty, humor, mystery and absurdity in the quotidian. We are not interested in stock photography nor in images that are simply illustrative.  STRATA strives to create images that are hard to make and even harder to categorize. Pictures that raise more questions than answers and reflect an eclectic, diverse worldview.
